Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken of a burning cane paddock in North Mossman, FNQ. We were living in a house next door to a large sugar can paddock & this is one of the sections that needed burning.

Time

This was early evening, around 5:30/6pm. We heard the crackling sounds of the fire & immediately went to see what it was. We were surprised & relieved.

Lighting

The darkening sky really helped bring out the brightness of the fire & set the atmosphere colors for the rising smoke. I remember it being very bright as we watched, we could even feel the heat.

Equipment

I used my Android mobile device at the time (I think it was a Samsung).

Inspiration

The colors & sillouhettes of the trees really stood out for me. The effect that the smoke had as it rose into the dark sky was captivating.

Editing

I used landscape settings with the Auto white balance with the flash off.

Feedback

Capture a full body of fire at its peak.
