Behind The Lens
Location
There is a raised bed planter in our front yard where we had planted five assorted hibiscus. Sadly the rabbits had gotten to most of them! I had just snapped a couple shots of our two surviving plants being drawn to their different hues.Time
This was a morning shot on a typical August day where we were expecting temps north of 100 degrees.Lighting
The sunlight was fading in and out a bit, and I noticed how much better the color looked after the cloud had passed. I am a learn as I go hobbyist I guess and this is one of those shots where after the fact it occurred to me "I could be playing with shadows".Equipment
Hoping that photography could become an engaging creative pass-time for me I knew I wanted a quality reliable camera. I got a Canon 60D kit with a bag, tripod and assorted accessories. It came with the 18-55mm lens. For this and most all my shots I hand hold the camera, although I have experimented some with the tripod.Inspiration
I am learning to use some of the different settings (portrait, sport, landscape) so I go outside and shoot a few around the yard and neighborhood most days. For this particular shot I was drawn by how bright it looked and wondered "what if I filled the whole frame with color?"Editing
I have so much yet to learn about using the camera I haven't done much in the way of post processing. I am glad though it's allowed in a lot of the contests because I clearly benefit from the advantage of cropping! In my camera bag
I have a 55-250mm zoom which I primarily use so the 18-55mm, a wide angle, the usual filters cords and cleaning accessories are in the bag.Feedback
Well I hardly think I'm qualified to give photography advice; but for me what I've found is that opportunities are around us all the time if we can but open our eyes to see them! Patience is truly a virtue, especially if you are waiting on a hummingbird! Last but not least photography is an art form meant to be creatively enjoyed so just have fun on your photographic journey!
