One of my first night photoshoots outside on the Niagara Escarpment multicourt at my Dundas, ON, Canada Studio.Time
This was a split 2-day fall photoshoot. The first booking was during daylight hours and the second was literally a midnight photoshoot. It was a tight timeline, but we were able to squeeze Christina in before she left for her freshman year to Iowa (Hawkeyes). This photo was shot at 12:49am on a chilly 2014 August evening.Lighting
A little bit of an experimentation but simple in the end. We had a bit of moonlight, Continuous Lighting w/Grid, Large Octabox Strobe, Reflector & Fog Machine.Equipment
My equipment was the Nikon D800, 1/250 sec at f/210, ISO 500, 19mm (Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM)Inspiration
I love to empower women to show their strength and beauty by what individually inspires them. When I am creative, I break rules to be interesting. For me it is about building confidence through my photography and pushing the limits of reality. If you can envision it-we can develop it-concept to creation.Editing
This image was all about angles. The multicourt has a basketball net that extends up and down. Timing was everything from the full extension with expression shooting on my belly through the fog. There wasn’t much post processing: I deleted some of the negative space between the subject & net, darkened the background and added a touch of breath. In my camera bag
My camera bag consists of a Nikon D4S, Nikon D850 & as of late my iPhone. Depending on what I’m shooting multiple lenses up to 400mm but 70-200mm is my workhorse. Many cards/reader, reflector & a few filters.Feedback
When photographing athletes, it is important to genuinely engage. Roll with the moment because it’s when everyone is enjoying themselves great things happen. It’s uncomfortable at first but you’d be amazed what trust can create. Remember you are the coach and there are always teaching moments.
