Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo while in China. I was touring a old town, what seemed like an small village in Guangzhou (a province in Southern China). This kettle is what the natives used a long time ago.

Time

Around 2 pm, we came to the village, the sun was full out and we were allowed to view a particular home which seemed like a set of small huts surrounding a very small Chinese garden. This hut however was very dark inside and had some intriguing things inside, like a cutlass on the wall, a pot in a corner and other kitchen items so I assumed I was in the Kitchen. This pot hung from roof and since the sunlight coming in was very little, I immediately began to adjust the ISO on my camera since it is ALWAYS in RAW. I think this was the first and last shot I took, one try and it was beautiful.

Lighting

I like when images have a misty, mysterious look and the sunlight coming in from a tiny window above wasn't enough to see around, but enough to create that mysterious look I like.

Equipment

I used my magic lens...haha! I love my 1.8 canon prime lens. Talk about low light perfection, talk about close up shots...yumm. No tripod, I hate those things (well except when in studio, and that's another kettle of fish)

Inspiration

The light inspired me. Sometimes you walk into a space or place or the day gets overcast in a beautiful moment when the light that shines on an object is just yummy and mellow. You only notice that stuff after you've been seriously photographing for a while. That's the same yummy glow that I knew would look beautiful on camera.

Editing

I don't remember editing this photo. If I did it's probably nothing much, maybe a tad bit vibrance, but I doubt it because a prime lens sucks all the color into your camera.

In my camera bag

I hate heavy bags, so when I know I'll be walking fir a long time, which I did on this trip, I travel light. I had a kit lens (50mm), 1.8 prime (35mm) my canon 550D, two filters, a UV cover (which I lost that day :( )

Feedback

Watch for the yummy light, when an object comes alive because it glows from the side, top or a particular angle. It doesn't matter what time of day or where, just let the objects around you surprise you and then you capture exactly the surprise. Please feature my website: www.annigraphy.com Thank You!
