Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on one of my many walks along a trail by my home in Northern California.

Time

Around 8 in the morning

Lighting

I love morning light. I try to take photos when I can during that magic time between 7 and 8 a.m.

Equipment

I was shooting with a Sony 550 at the time, and Sony macro lens. No flash, I very rarely use a flash instead choosing to use natural lighting. This was hand held. Shutter speed 1/250, f8.0, ISO 200

Inspiration

I love to try and capture the smaller insects and creatures in nature. Springtime lends itself to a wealth of ladybugs and other photo subjects. I spotted this ladybug, the way it was hiding in the grass combined with the lighting and I knew it would be good.

Editing

In my camera bag

Sony 65, Sony macro lens, wide angle, my favorite lens a Sony 70-300 zoom, and my absolute favorite for wildlife shooting, my 200-500 Tamron telephoto lens.

Feedback

Early morning light, get close and get down on the level of your subject if possible. I like side lighting and looking for contrasting subjects.
