Behind The Lens

Location

This was one of my first photos which I took at my daughters house I did not have much experience at the time so I was really pleased with the result

Time

It was early afternoon when I took the shot The dog was sat on the sofa watching me going thro my camera settings so while he was sat so still I took the opportunity and took a shot

Lighting

There was a large bay window with lots of light shining thro which fell beautifully over the dogs face lighting up his eyes adding shadow and depth to his face

Equipment

This was shot on my Galaxy NX 1000 with a 16mm f/1.8 prime lense no other equipment was used

Inspiration

The sunlight shining thro the large window enhanced the dogs coat and eyes beautifully and he was sat in a perfect pose looking regal and intelegent as I had my camera in hand hoping he wouldn't move and break the mood I took the shot

Editing

I used an app on my iPad to change it from Colour to black and white I sharpened it slightly boosted contrast a little and cropped

In my camera bag

In my bag I now have a canon 70D canon 430EX11 speedlight canon 50mm f/1.8 prime canon 55-250mm zoom a sigma 105mm f/2.8 macro tripod and large 5 in 1 reflectors and a diffuser for my speedlight

Feedback

When you're first starting out and have no lighting equipment experiment with window light backl light or from the side it creates a soft natural effect try different angles it the light from the sun is too harsh or bright pin a shower curtain or white sheet in front of the window to soften the effect
