Location
This photo was taken in Nelson, Nevada - approximately 25 miles from Boulder City, Nevada.Time
This was taken at about 11:00am, as my friend, a fellow shutterbug and I had planned to get out fairly early to beat the summer heat. However, by the time we arrived it was already about 105 degrees fahrenheit.Lighting
The lighting in this photo is all naturalEquipment
This was shot on a Nikon D70 with a 18-55mm lens, using a UV filter.Inspiration
The area known as Nelson was originally called Eldorado in 1775, by the Spaniards who made the original discoveries of gold in the area that is now Eldorado Canyon. A hundred years later the prospectors and miners of the day took over and established the notorious Techatticup Mine. Disagreements over ownership, management and labor disputes resulted in wanton killings so frequent as to be routine and ordinary. Despite the sinister reputation of the mine, it along with others in the town produced several million dollars in gold, silver, copper and lead.Editing

Anyone traveling to Nelson, Nevada can expect some really great photo opportunities. This is an old gold mine area, so plenty of rusted metal abound. In the summer months it can get extremely hot (120+) so plant to get there early in the day to beat the heat and bring lots of water to drink!
