Great contrast of textures and colours. A wonderful capture.

Behind The Lens

Location

I stumbled upon the ruins of a building in the rural area of Bainbridge, PA.

Time

It was a sunny afternoon, I believe it was the start of summer.

Lighting

I used the natural lighting available at the location. I am not fond of using a flash unless it is necessary.

Equipment

I believe it was my Nikon D3200 with a 18-55mm lens. Pretty basic!

Inspiration

I used to photograph a lot of abandoned buildings. I like forgotten things and unsual places. I was really fond of the texture of the stone wall, and how old it appeared to be. I thought the plants spilling through were beautiful in that light, and it looked like something mysterious.

Editing

Oh yes, I increased the vibrance and clarity to make this image pop.

In my camera bag

I have a few lenses, my favorite is a 50mm Nikkor lens that I use often for portraits. I keep cleaning supplies handy.

Feedback

Look for the magic. I didn't think this image would be as popular as it is. I've sold several prints of this photo. I think people like it because they tell me they see things in it, or that it makes them feel a certain way. It's hanging in a therapist's office and she uses it as an ice breaker with her new clients, asking them how it makes them feel. I am so flattered by the positive feedback. I think if you see something when you're out taking photos, and it makes you feel something, chances are someone else will feel that, too.
