It was mid day so we weren't expecting to see an owl.Lighting
It was a sunny day. Very little clouds.Equipment
A canon 60d, Canon 100-400mm LS lens. Hand heldInspiration
The very opportunity to photograph a Great Gray Owl in the wild on a hunt was inspiration enough. To see the massive wing span, to have it fly directly over you without making the slightest sound, to look into those deep yellow eyes is an experience you never forget.Editing
Some cropping and contrast. In my camera bag
Canon 7d, Canon 100-400mm ls lens, a canon T2i for backup, canon 10-24mm, and a canon 18-55mm. A tripod and beanbag.Feedback
A fast shutter speed is crucial for birds in flight, and be ready to move with the subject. Photographing animals in the wild can be unpredictable so expect the unexpected.
