Behind The Lens

Location

In Woodland Alabama, about two hours from where my business was based at the time.

Time

Late afternoon, between 3:30 and 4:30 pm.

Lighting

I love using natural light whether I'm shooting indoors or out. Otherwise, I only use my "on camera flash."

Equipment

Nikon D90

Inspiration

Promoting my business to amateur models is what inspired me mostly, and I had also purchased some snow overlays I wanted to try. I was thrilled when I got the shot because it turned out exactly as I had hoped!

Editing

I did! I sharpened the image, adjusted with curves, and used a snow overlay.

In my camera bag

Nikon D7000, Nikon D90, 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S DX VR ED Nikkor lense, Nikon 50mm f/1.8D AF Nikkor lense.

Feedback

Even though I'm typically spontaneous with posing my models, I wanted to get a particular look for this portrait, and planned for it in advance. Plan your outcome before taking a shot like this, use natural light to your advantage, and most importantly, help your model/client to be as relaxed as possible. The outcome will be a very natural look.
