Behind The Lens

Location

This photograph was taken in the garden at my workplace at the Aga Khan University Institute for Educational Development, Karachi. Paksitan.

Time

I was on my way to a meeting at our other campus (it was around 4:00 pm) and on the walkway saw these beautiful flowers and felt that I just to capture their beauty.

Lighting

The sky at that time was partially overcast, with the sun shining through in only a few places. The flowers were calling out for a capture in such a beautifully lit day.

Equipment

I used my Samsung Galaxy Note phablet. It was all I had on me at that time. I did a few previews to determine the best angle and lighting and took the shot with no flash.

Inspiration

I love taking photographs of the natural environment in which I work and live in. I sometimes take a walk along the gardens at my workplace and observe nature and its beauty with my handy Samsung Galaxy Note close at hand, just in case inspiration hits.

Editing

The only post processing I did was to crop the image a bit and turn it to black and white. I felt that the black and white image added that vintage tonal look that I didn't quite get with the coloured shot.

In my camera bag

I always carry my Samsung Galaxy Note device with me. Currently I am using the Note 3. I don't own a professional camera. I however, am very much into cell phone photography and have found that it does give some pretty good results.

Feedback

Always carry your camera/cell phone around with you. You know never know when inspiration will hit. Sometimes the perfect shots are not perfectly staged, but are ones that come from intuition and observation.
