Behind The Lens
Location
Bassano Del Grappa, ItalyTime
It was in the early afternoon.Lighting
It was bright, but because it was inside a courtyard, the postion of the sun and the subjects meant no harsh shadows.Equipment
Canon DSLR and a 70-200 zoom lens. No tripod, no flash.Inspiration
I was taking individual portraits from a distance. These two people looked so good together, I thought I'd have a duet. [They're both dancers too!]Editing
The raw file was in colour. I turned it to monochrome in Aperture, adjusted the black point, shadows and the exposure slightly. Maybe a couple more adjustments; I can't remember. It was taken two years ago.In my camera bag
I cycle a lot, so I've started taking a minimum of equipment, whatever I can get into my pocket really. Most of the photography I do is during daytime. I've recently bought a Fuji X20, so I've been using that, rather than the DSLR. I like it.Feedback
The subject is the most important thing, always. My portraits tend to be sneaky ones, but this was different. The couple knew I was taking the photo, but I think they both look very natural. It was not a pose as such, rather a "snap". Maybe because I know them both well, I don't know. This is not really the sort of photograph I would normally take, but I'm pleased with the result. It looks better in monochrome too, I think.
