Behind The Lens
Location
I took this photo at the Holy Family Catholic Church, here in my town of Saginaw, Michigan.Time
I took this shot while out and about, around 2:30am...super duper late and windy. I was spooked a few times by the flag flapping around out there!Lighting
Pretty much the ground lights, illuminating it. Other than that, no help at all .Equipment
I used my Canon 7D, with my trusty 50mm lens. Exposed for 13 sec. with the ISO set at 100 and f-stop set at 16. No flash needed on this one.Inspiration
Before I ever learned photography, I was focused on illustration and drawing. The Renaissance artists definitely inspired me, particularly Leonardo da Vinci and his spectacular studies and drawings, but Michelangelo's dramatic sculpting left me floored. His Pieta in the Vatican is gorgeous to me. I never had the funds to ever visit Italy but was thrilled to find out that there were only a few official copies made from the original mold of his. I was hen thrilled to find that my town had one. Absolutely thrilled.Editing
I usually tweak the contrast and white balance a bit in Lightroom, but not a whole lot on this one.In my camera bag
I've had the unfortunate situation of having to sell my beloved 7D last fall and have been without a camera since but, at that time, I had: the 7D body, a 50mm lens, a 18-200mm lens, a off-brand but excellent hotshoe flash, a few random filters, and rechargeable batteries/charger.Feedback
Pay attention to the different times of the day and how it affects the mood of the subject you wish to capture. I wanted the clearest sky for my shot and I waited til it seemed right. Feel the mood and capture it.
