Location
This images was taken at a charity saint Jude's trail ride event in south Alabama.Time
The shot was taken between 530 and 630 am.Lighting
It's all natural light ( what can I say sometimes you just get lucky ) there was a valley trapping the mist rolling off a small watering hole. The raising Sun hit it just right to give it that golden glow.Equipment
I used a Canon1ds mark 2 with a 75 to 300 handheld. It was my first time using this camera outside of a bit of practise the three days leading up to this event so I was still a bit clumsy with it and would have to check my file data but I believe I had the settings in the neighbourhood of 1 /400 f 5.6 and a ISO of 400Inspiration
Again this was 60 percent luck. I had seen the potential for a great shot in the environment but it was not until luck placed the cowboy leading his horse to the water that it all come together.I remember taking to another photographer and watching that location out of the corner of my eye. It was mid sentence when I rudely cut him off and hit a spirit to get in place to hit the shutter button three clicks later I had the shotEditing
Post was minimal on this one using the raw file I added a bit of saturation and a small crop .I believe it may have a hint of tone mapping. In my camera bag
I have a backpack style bag loaded with my Canon 1 ds mark 2 75/300 Canon lens a 18 to 80 Canon lens and a50 mm prime sigma lens . 40 creative and nd filters a flash gun, wireless shutter release with my tripod in towFeedback
Always be ready. take what you need times two . If you see a great location snap a initial image so you don't miss a great lighting opportunity then stay to see if a better opportunity happens by. Above all keep your eyes open and your running shoes on.
