Most people are surprised when I tell them this was taken in New Port Richey, Florida in my mother's backyard. She lives off a man-made lake that has beautiful sunsets. Each one is unique and there has never been another like this.Time
This was taken around 7:30 in March of 2013. The sunsets in Florida will shift in colors as the sun goes down. Sometimes you only have a few minutes of high intensity colors like this before the moment is gone. It's better to take pictures every few minutes so you have a lot to choose from.Lighting
Sunsets can be a challenge because the goal, at least for me, is to capture the scene as true to color as possible. Sometimes this requires taking the same photo over and over again while I tweak the settings.Equipment
Honestly, I wasn't planning on taking any pictures. My mom happened to look outside and said, "Look how weird the sky looks." I grabbed my sister's camera, which was a GE X500 that she used for yearbook class in high school and just hoped for the best. I put it on panoramic mode and tried to hold it as steady as possible.Inspiration
I was just trying to capture the moment. I had never seen a sunset like that before and it seemed worth remembering.Editing
No.In my camera bag
Now I have a Canon EOS Rebel T6 that I got for a graduation present when I earned my BA. I have a couple different lenses for it, but I still consider myself an amateur photographer with a lot to learn.Feedback
Be prepared for the unexpected and don't be afraid to use whatever equipment you can get a hold of. While sunsets can be tricky. In my experience, it's best to keep messing with the settings until you get it right.
