Behind The Lens
Location
I took this photo around the area of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park on the big island of Hawaii.Time
I took this around 5:30 in the afternoon.Lighting
The light is a little harsh for me and normally I would wait until later in the evening when there is better light, but there is just so much to see on that island I didn't know if I would have a chance to return to that spot at a later time. So I took the the shot when I had the chance.Equipment
The camera I used was a Nikon D70 with a 28 - 200mm f3.5 - 5.6 lens.Inspiration
Walking around that park felt like walking on the moon or something. So much of those lava fields are pitch black and void of life. But when I came upon this area, the contrast of the new growth against the black lava was striking. Plus the added bonus of that incredible view I just thought it would be a great memory to capture.Editing
I played around with the settings in camera RAW for a bit until I was happy. In my camera bag
Right now I have a Nikon D7000 with and 18 - 200mm lens. That is all I have at the moment and I hope to someday expand my bag. But I have a lot of fun with what I have.Feedback
First I just have to give a special thank you to my brother Lucas and his wife Jenny for making this photo possible. Visiting a place like Hawaii, it is hard not to come away with some great photos. I would say take lots of pictures. Don't not take a photo because you are not in the "golden hours" window or whatever. If you are at a spot that really moves you, take the shot, and if you are able to come back at a later time when you think the light would be better or whatever then great. Just have fun and appreciate and enjoy the place you are at.
