Love that shot. Did you photograph on plexi or did you flip the image in photoshop? I'm looking to create a similar look and want to know if I can save myself a few hundred dollars on plexi :)

Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in my home studio, aka, garage converted into a studio. I have since moved out of my garage and into a retail space. I am definitely happy being in a "real" space but I honestly miss the ease of being able to walk downstairs and shoot anytime the mood strikes!

Time

I honestly don't remember. I think it was in the morning based on my schedule at the time, but I wasn't using natural light so this question might not be applicable. This is also a composite photo taken in the 3rd trimester and again when baby was about a month old. I would have preferred to shoot the 2nd shot when baby was about a week old but the client was unavailable at that time.

Lighting

Here I used one Paul Buff AlienB800 and the medium size PLM system as well as a reflector. I enjoy contrast and shadows in my artistic photos so I try not to over light because that tends to flatten them out.

Equipment

I shoot with a Canon 5DMiii and I used my 50mm 1.2f. No tripod. I used one Paul Buff AlienB800 and the medium size PLM system as well as a reflector.

Inspiration

I think pregnancy is one of the most beautiful times in a woman's life, becoming a mother is an amazing adventure. It not only transforms your body, but your life as well as your soul.

Editing

Yes, this is a composite photo taken in the 3rd trimester and again when baby was about a month old. I would have preferred to shoot the 2nd shot when baby was about a week old but the client was unavailable at that time. I also preferred the photo in B&W.

In my camera bag

Camera and my two lenses. I used to have more lenses but I used them less and less. I use my 28-70 2.8 75% of the time.

Feedback

I would say to not try and capture this same image, but instead create something that makes you feel the way this photo makes me feel. Shoot what inspires you and don't worry about what other people are doing. I have re created this shot with different moms and in different positions and they all tell a different story.
