Location
I took this photo via "rapid fire" from my Backyard on one spring day.Time
This was taken mid-day around 12:30.Lighting
Natural light with overcast skies, facing WestEquipment
Nikon D90, AF-S DX VR Nikkor 55-300mm 4.5-5.6G ED Lens. f/10 aperture and 1/2,500 shutter speed. No flash, no tripod. I use mostly automatic settings for motion shots. For idle/still items, I use manual settings sometimes just to play. I haven't touched the tip of a pinhead on what I could probably do with this camera.Inspiration
I love sitting on my deck and catching as much wildlife as I can, at different times and seasons. I have a backyard that is wildlife friendly for the average suburban housing. Trees I started as seedlings and nurtured to full growth, I have bird feeders, hummingbird feeders and a bird bath. I snap anything the catches my eye; from wildlife to planes overhead, rabbits, sunsets, sunrises, stormy clouds and oddities I see outside in and around my back or front yard. Really, I am an amateur just playing with "settings" on my camera just to see what I might come up with. I do night time shots, although I am not really too good at this. I just like knowing I can capture my live, real time memories and see the hidden things my eyes pick up, but I am unconsciously aware of until I have jumbled dreams and wonder, "Where did that come from"? Sometimes it amazes me what kind of pictures I end up with. I love being outdoors more than inside. I want to remember the things I see in my life. I want to experience and save these things so I can reflect and share with others. It helps to communicate with other people when you can share things. I create gifts with my photos and give them to people I care about, or to someone who might need a touch of compassion in their life.Editing
Mostly no. If I do it will be zoom and crop. I might auto enhance the color via the IPhoto on my MAC Book. I find I am more attached to what I catch in the moment. I like knowing that what I see is what I get; and capture something that catches my eye in the moment, somehow feels more authentic to me.In my camera bag
My camera, with the 55-300mm lens, extra charged battery, tripod, lens brush, sun filter, bottled water, treats for Max-My Budders, extra SD card and My "how to" amateur photography book to look up definitions and best settings if I take the time to look at it. I have my original 18-55 mm Lens, but I typically never use it too much. I like getting close up from a distance and carrying as little as possible. Oh, and a camera cover if it starts sprinkling on my camera.Feedback
Play, Play, Play. Sometimes I will take a set of pictures of the same subject. One for every auto setting on my camera, just to see what I come up with and hopefully help me learn what my camera can do. I am in no hurry to learn. Right now, I work a lot and just have fun with my camera. It is a refuge from a hard day, or a reason to go out and have fun. I do not want to make my camera a "have to" kind of hobby or anything. I just want to have fun with it for now. I would like to, sometime in the future, get more serious about what all I could do with it. But, then that is why I bought one that I will probably not outgrow in quite a while.
