Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Threave gardens in Castle Douglas. The gardens are within the grounds of Threave House & Estate.

Time

This was taken just after lunchtime around 1 o'clock. The butterflies were all flying around having their lunches too

Lighting

I used the natural light coming into the garden and hose not to use the flash so it would not flood the image,

Equipment

Nikon D3000, Nikon AF-S 55-300mm f4.5-5.6 G ED VR Lens dx format

Inspiration

I liked the fact there were a few different types of butterflies all coming together to enjoy the nectar. It was so peaceful and pretty i had to try and capture it.

Editing

I cropped the picture to focus in the section with the most butterflies clustered.

In my camera bag

Nikon D3000, 18-55mm Zoom-NIKKOR VR Image Stabilization Lens Nikon AF-S 55-300mm f4.5-5.6 G ED VR Lens dx format

Feedback

You have to be quick but also have a steady hand. I didnt use a tripod but would probably have got more shots if i had. The gardens were busy so i had to stop and start to allow visitors to pass. No time to put a tripod up and down. I would try going earlier in the day when its quieter and a lot of natural light to utilise.
