this is just a fantastic image - you have an uncanny ability to capture very realistic images of these huge animals - congrats on the feature

I am unbelievably jealous of all your animal shots, especially the tigers, to meet them this close and see them act like this is incredible, great captures :)

I always like to shoot my animal shots on overcast days, even though it requires going to a higher ISOEquipment
Canon 7d with a Sigma 50-500mm lens. All my animal shots are hand held.Inspiration
These were very active Amur tigers at the time located at the Bronx Zoo. Of course there is a lot of luck and good timing involved to see them interacting as they were in this shot, but lots of patience usually pays off, as it did on this day with the two males doing some high energy play fighting.Editing
I use photoshop cs5 using sharpening and some saturation, and of course come cropping. I also use the Topaz plugins Clean and Adjust for further enhancement. In my camera bag
I carry a Canon 28-135mm lens, a Canon 10-22mm wide angle, a Tokina 90mm macro lens, and a Sigma EF-530 DG ST flash. And four fresh LP-E6 batteries.Feedback
Very simple. If you are a tog, who, because of circumstance, location or by choice, tend to gravitate towards captive animals at zoos for your photographic subjects, and you submit them on photo sites like Viewbug, don't be intimidated by the wildlife purists who don't think you're a real photographer, togs who think these animals just sit up and pose for you, and the monkey you're shooting could probably take a better picture. That's hogwash! The obstacles at the zoo far outweigh the obstacles found in the wild. The wires and bars and distorted plexiglass one must shoot through, the hordes of kids bumping into you just as you find the shot you've been waiting hours to take, and forget about bringing your tripod...no room to set it down amid the masses...not easy being a zoolander! I have taken tons of wildlife shots...egrets, great blue herons, night herons, ducks of all kinds and red-tailed hawks and perigrine falcons...no one to bother me or bump into me, nothing in front of me but my subject...set up my tripod and wait for the shot. Easiest shots I've ever taken. The greatest attribute you can have while trying to get an exciting and interesting captive animal image is patience. Have an idea what you want to shoot...portrait, action shot...have it framed in your mind so when the opportunity presents itself you are ready to get what you came for. Happy clicking!
