Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken along Dunlop Creek in West Virginia.

Time

My family and I were heading to the historic town of Thurmond, West Virginia and along the way we stopped at several waterfalls. This photograph became one of my favorites that day.

Lighting

I did not use any artificial lighting in this photo.

Equipment

This was shot with a Nikon D7100 with a 18-55mm lens on a tripod.

Inspiration

I took this photo to show that it is not always the big picture when you are out. Sometimes you have to pay attention to the little details.

Editing

I usually do not edit very much. I will sometimes adjust the color. I shoot in RAW form so I do have to process it to change it to JPEG.

In my camera bag

I usually have a Nikon D7100 with a 24-85mm lens, 18-55mm lens, 70-300mm lens, 500mm lens, CPL filter and Variable ND filter.

Feedback

Patience and repetition are my two key points of advice. Don't go in somewhere thinking it is going to be one shot and done. I spend hours out taking photographs and come home with a few that I really like. Don't get discouraged. Set up your gear and watch your histogram. If you are not sure how to use it YouTube is a wonderful place to learn.
