Behind The Lens

Location

I took this picture in the island of Lunga near Isle of Mull in the Inner Hebrides, Scotland during a boat trip to Fingals cave.

Time

The weather was a calm sunny day, unusual for the inner Hebrides, allowing me to get some beautiful shots of the curious pelicans.

Lighting

The sky was clear and the behind me allowing me to capture the colour of the pelicans beaks without saturating the photo too much

Equipment

Camera was a Nikon D7000 with a lens i borrowed from a local photographer who was also in the boat

Inspiration

The pelicans were just so friendly as they do not usually interact with humans, so getting close to them was particularly easy. This one was so near the edge and much less excited than its friends that I had a lot of time to observe and finally capture it mainly against the sky.

Editing

Due to the lens I had borrowed, and the unsually clear day no post-processing was done on this photo.

In my camera bag

I usually carry a prime 50mm lens and 18-105 mm as a standard, a telephoto lens occasionally accompanies me when I spend time looking for wildlife to capture.

Feedback

Location, location, location (and a bit of patience).
