Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my backyard in Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Time

Jake and Ziva love to run and play together so getting their photo was never hard. It was February 1, 2013 when I took this photo and got down on their level one afternoon and just kept taking photos of them.

Lighting

It was about noon during the day so lighting wasn't an issue.

Equipment

My first DSLR camera Nikon D5100 F5 1/1250sec, ISO400, Focal length 86mm no other equipment was used.

Inspiration

Ziva my sable Shetland Sheepdog on the left was adopted by me the year before and was extremely overweight and couldn't even run and play. It took almost a year to get her weight down so to see her running and playing and having so much fun with Jake made me so happy for her. They played all the time and got lot of exercise and I got a lot of good action shots.

Editing

I cropped it a little but think that was all.

In my camera bag

I was just starting out in photography at this time. I now have had four DSLR cameras and now use Nikon D500 with 200-500mm lens most of time but also carry my D7100 with my 24-70mm lens and also my 18-300mm. I carry my monopod and do more bird photography and nature when I can.

Feedback

I have learned a lot over the years about shutter speed and that is very important in any action photo so I think this is the most important thing to work on if you are going to be taking action shots.
