For English speakers, Caisteal Caol a Chuirn (Scots Gaelic) translates to Kilchurn Castle and it means castle on the rock at the shoreline. Built by Sir Colin Campbell, the First Lord of Glenorchy in the late 1400s. It was struck by lightning in the 18th century so they moved out to one of their 4 other castles called Taymouth near Kenmore in Perthshire. And yes, Kenmore is a US brand of washing machines but the real Kenmore is cool cos the oldest hotel in Scotland is in the middle of the village and it started selling rooms & cheap booze to customers in the mid 1500s.
