This photo was taken inside my parents home on christmas eve, directly next to the fireplace.Time
It was night, indoors with some light from the fireplace and one lamp in the corner of the room.Lighting
I'm huge on using available lighting. The fireplace and lamp were sufficient and the camera captured exactly what my eyes saw.Equipment

I loved Gizmo (my cat) I found him in the ditch when i was in the 4th grade. He was just a little kitten when i found him but at the time of this photo he was getting old. I wasnt sure how much longer he would be around and really wanted to shoot him. He lived another few years after this photo was taken. A solid 16 years for him!Editing
I just added slight blur to the edges of the photo. I believe everything else was untouched.In my camera bag
Now i have a canon 5d mark iii; ef 24-70 f/2.8 ii; ef 50 1.4 and a battery grip. Often I will have my ef 70-200 f2.8 is ii as well.Feedback
Shoot as much as possible. Try different settings. Pay attention to how changes in iso, shutter speed, appersture and white balance impact your shot. I cant remember specific details but for this shot I wanted it to capture what I saw, rather than seeking the "correct" white balance.
