Behind The Lens
Location
This photo was taken in my father's driveway in South-Central Texas.Time
I took this photo at about 9 AM on a Saturday, which is when the sun is shining directly over the driveway. It wasn't super warm (which was an added bonus), and had the nicest lighting for the photo that I wanted to take. The headlamp was clean and taking the photo in medium light cut down on reflections on the headlamp cover.Lighting
In regards to trying to take a photo of similar composition, do when it in medium-to-high light so that the items in the headlamp element can be captured. If the headlamp is clean, low-to-medium amounts of light are best, as there won't be nearly so many reflections. If it's dirty, the high amounts of light are best as to cut through the dirt and grime that will be on the headlamp.Equipment
The camera used was a 2007 Canon Rebel XTi DSLR camera with a low-light lens attached. This rendered the usage of flash completely pointless. Also, no tripod was used, just a set of semi-steady handsInspiration
The inspiration for this photo was seeing all of the headlamp images of different cars in the automobile magazines. The B8.5 model Audi A4/S4 (model pictured is an S4) has a very interesting headlamp design. It's complex, and visually, is very interesting, but it's not overwrought. It's just one part of the car that very eloquently says "luxury".Editing
Nothing was edited on this photo after-the-fact. So this is "straight from the lens", if you will.In my camera bag
I usually have a low-light lens, a medium-zoom lens (I don't remember the exact spec of either), an additional 2GB SD card, my USB Drive, and my charger.Feedback
Not really, other than take the amount of light, and the location of the light into consideration. Moderate light is better for clean headlamps, and for dirty ones, high amounts. You want the sun (or whatever light source that's being used) should be behind for a photo of this composition).
