Location
This was taken on film in 1997. I was in France walking the grounds that surround Versailles. I followed this couple for a few minutes and I do not think they knew I was there. I recall I had about 8-10 slides and I thought, dud-dud-dud-dud and then this one where they were in step with each other. C'est Magnifique!Time
Around mid-day I guess looking at the shadows. I was taking photos as I vacationed and while I prefer shooting earlier or later in the day, this is when this happened.Lighting
I said I prefer shooting earlier or later in the day. What helped me in this photo is it was an overcast day so the lighting was more even. I've been doing photography since the 1970s so I know exposure and how to set a camera manually. Even today, as good as cameras are, getting the exposure right when you take the photo makes a big difference.Equipment
Nikon, probably an F3. It's a 1990s vintage 35mm film camera but back then it was my baby.Inspiration
Look at those two. It's inspiration personified.Editing
No.In my camera bag
Now it's a Nikon D800 DSLR camera. My lenses are all Nikon; 24-70mm f/2.8, 70-200mm f/2.8, 10-24mm, 60mm Micro, 105mm Micro, and an older 300mm f/2.8. Nikon SB-800 flash. Fong diffuser. A few small reflectors and flags. CR-PL filters. Lot's of batteries. I also use (I hate to admit it) a Leica D-Lux 6 (really a Panasonic LX-7 with better color profile). I love shooting with it. And I occasionally play with a Fujifilm X100 and my older film cameras.Feedback
Once I see a subject I like, I watch and observe it and take several shots changing the composition until I think I have something. The LCD on the back of the camera never tells me if I got it. I need to review my photos later to see if the subject still interests me. My advice is, play and explore and take a lot of photos. Be thankful you're not paying per picture as I had to do when I shot film.
