Behind The Lens
Location
I took this photo in Sweden. I regularly went on walks to take nature photos and I saw these bugs on a dandelion at the side of a trail.Time
The image was taken in the middle of the afternoon on a Summer's day when it was warm, still and sunny.Lighting
I just used natural lighting for this image. There was enough daylight to get a good exposure.Equipment
I used a Canon 7d with a Canon 100mm Macro lens which was hand held.Inspiration
I love to take macro images of flowers and insects and this is one of my favorite images. I took it because I loved the contrast of the soft, fluffy white dandelion with the two Shield Bugs.Editing
Not very much which is the case for all my photography. I don't believe in doing too much to an image and like to get it as close to perfect in the first place. All I did was sharpen the bugs, alter brightness, contrast and color. In my camera bag
I am a nature photographer specializing in bird photography. I usually work with a Canon 1d mark iii and a Canon 100-400mm lens. I have just purchased the Sigma 150-500mm lens to get more reach. I also regularly use my Canon 100mm Macro lens. My back-up/second body is a Canon 7d. I usually work hand held for the bird photography.Feedback
Macro photography requires a different way of thinking and it takes a while to get your eye in but once you take the time to look at things close up you will discover much more. So often I go to take a macro image of a flower and find that there is a bug in there. You will need a good macro lens and ideally a tripod.
