Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my backyard, in the pond that my husband and kids built for me for a Mother's Day present years ago.

Time

I had heard the frogs all night, the night before, it was a different sound that the rest of the ones I've heard all week. So I was able to go out side about mid morning and took this picture of him.

Lighting

I'm a huge fan of natural lighting, and I enjoy playing around with how the light hits certain objects I am shooting. When I'm out and about I'm always looking at how the sun or shadows hit things and imagine them in a shot.

Equipment

For this picture, I used my very first camera I got as a gift one year. A bridge camera (I was too chicken to actually go the professional route when I decided I wanted a better than a point and shoot camera) After many months of research I picked the Canon PowerShot SX30 IS. I knew after having this particular camera, that I should have just gotten the professional one. I do love taking pictures with this one, but love my new Canon as well! There was no need for a tripod or a flash on this photo.

Inspiration

I'm a frog nut! I simply love them, have them everywhere, in my house, in my car (fake ones of course!)...and when I get them in my pond, I get tickled knowing that they come and lay eggs and enjoy the beauty of them. When we open my pond, I'm out there every day waiting for them to show up so I can watch them. This frog was one of the biggest I've had in my pond since they started coming in my yard.

Editing

I did not.

In my camera bag

I always carry my camera, and my two lenses in my bag. As well as my hood and my cleaning kit. Depending on where I go (how far away from home I am) I will bring my filters or macro lenses or my tripod....but I tend to leave those at home. And a bottle of water!

Feedback

Don't be afraid to take shots close to home, in your own back/front yard. And use different times of the day (where the sun hits on certain objects). I enjoy doing landscapes, I'm more comfortable with them, so keep clicking and you will get some pretty good photos! Find something you are good at and take pictures of them. But also, go out of your comfort zone and start getting good at those types of pictures as well! And although I don't usually 'edit' my photos, learn a good program as well (there are a ton out there to pick from) and don't be afraid to ask questions of someone that you can ask. If you don't have something in your yard, go to a local park, or lake, you will find so many different things you can take pictures of. Think of what you want the world to see through YOUR eyes and click away!
