Behind The Lens
Location
The photo was taken Downtown Los Angeles as a part of an essay documentary film I'm working on.Time
It was a cold and rainy February night. In Los Angeles doesn't rain that often so anytime there's a drizzle, I am on the streets with the camera. On this particular day, is was well past 2:00 A.MLighting
When I glimpsed at the street, the corner of my eye saw a back whirl, appearing to drag the street with everything on it toward some sort of tenebrae yet the reflections of the light was crawling forward, through shallow puddles.Equipment
This was shot with Canon 5D Mark ii, 16-35mm L f/2.8. No flash or other equipment used.Inspiration
I wanted to recreate the glimpse I caught with the corner of my eye. There was something that my mind created in a split second by accident and I wanted to be able to revisit that moment.Editing
I use the technicolor profile which is quite flat, allowing me to get more detail in midtones & dark areas. The contrast & brightness were increased quite a bit. The exposure was decreased by 0.05 stops and the image was completely desaturated. No textures or filters have been applied. The image was never brought into Photoshop. In my camera bag
Hmmm... :) Since I had a very bad experience about one year ago when one of my lens bags was stolen while photographing a time lapse in Malibu, I tend to carry a small bag that's only in my possession; The following equipment is always in my bag: My 5D Mark ii with Magic Lantern Hack, 16-335L f/2.8, 50mm f/1.4, 100mmL f/2.8 & 70-200mmL f/2.8, 4 batteries, 3-4 1000x CF cards, remote control, mini tripod. Sometime I take a long the fluid head Manfrotto Head & Legs.Feedback
Well... if I tell you, then I must...:) First of all, I'm honored the you are enjoying my work. Thank you! As I was mentioning before, with this particular image I was trying to recreate a minuscule glimpse that my eye caught while turning my head on a drizzling February night in Downtown Los Angeles. The settings I used are quite uncommon for the conditions present when the photo was taken: Camera was hand held, with a swift movement when firing the shot; f/2.8, shutter 1/25, iso 1250. Focal length: 35mm
