Location
This was taken at the Dallas Arboretum. We live just north of Seattle, but were visiting relatives in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. They took us to this beautiful park, where they had a Dale Chihuly exhibit. We were thrilled to see the works of a "Seattleite' displayed so well. I have always enjoyed photography, so am very happy when I get a chance to capture new places & experiences. I took several photos this day as we walked through the Arboretum.Time
We arrived at the Arboretum early afternoon, but walked around for hours. I think this photo was taken towards the end of our stroll, so must have been about 3:00 pm. The sun was just right to shine through the glass.Lighting
This was just luck. This particular exhibit was positioned in water, so I was limited in where I could take my shot. There were different groupings & the sun hit this one just right.Equipment
I was so happy with the outcome of the photos I took this particular day. We had gone to the Fort Worth Botanic Garden the day before. My DSLR stopped working halfway through our visit there. I had my older backup Nikon Coolpix 8700 with me. That is what I had to resort to. I got very good results with this older camera. I handheld the camera for all the shots I took.Inspiration
I liked the way that the sun reflected on the glass in this particular shot. I took several that day, but this was one of my favorites.Editing
I cropped this photo a bit using Photoshop. In my camera bag
I just recently purchased a second DSLR, which is the Nikon D7100. My other DSLR is the Nikon D80. I have a Nikor 50mm, 18-55mm, 55-200mm, 55-300mm, & the Nikon SB 600 Speedlight. We are retired full time rvers, so have a backpack that I keep one DSLR in, along with the lenses. I have a compartment in the rv for all my other camera items. I also have a couple smaller cameras to carry in my purse, when I want something lighter. I currently have a Canon Powershot G12 & a smaller Nikon Coolpix S9300.Feedback
We were in a position where I could not chose the timing of the photos I took that day as relatives had taken us to this exhibit. I used the elements, such as water or the sun, to get as many dramatic shots as I could of the exhibit. There were some displays that were beautiful, but the sun was in the wrong position. Those displays looked a little dull as far as lighting was concerned. I took other photos this day where the nearby lake was the background. This was a time where I had to work with the available lighting (midday sun), along with a smaller camera, & hope for the best.
