Behind The Lens

Location

In an outdoor restaurant in Jerusalem, my place of birth and spiritual home.

Time

In the evening, after i had been asked to speak at a family event.

Lighting

The sun was just setting, and it was during the golden hour, which in 'Jerusalem of Gold' is, well, magical. The light filtered through the white table cloth so it was eve further diffused.

Equipment

Shot with A nikon D90 and a nifty fifty- nikon 50mm 1.8

Inspiration

It was wartime in Israel, and earlier that day i spent time in a bomb shelter listening to missiles explode over head. We were eating at this family event, and this little kitty was trying to get scraps from the diners. The staff tried to shoo it away, but it kept coming back. Jerusalem has hundreds of feral cats, they are almost considered vermin. But in an isolated frame, its just a kitty. I also felt like focusing on the kitty would take my mind of the war and the pressure of speaking at this family event.

Editing

Just a few light touch ups in Adobe Lightroom 3

In my camera bag

My camera, two, lenses, a flash, and an extension tube.

Feedback

Get down as low as possible, down the cats eyes level. The shift in perspective is HUGE. Move slowly, as feral cats are super cautious. Try a food bribe.
