Behind The Lens
Location
This photo was take at Pipers Lagoon, a local park in Nanaimo, British Columbia. This is one of may favourite parks as it looks over the Georgia Straight. On a clear day you can see Vancouver on the main land.Time
This was shot in the late evening, during the golden hour, the last hour before the sun sets.Lighting
For most of my shoots I use strobes, however we were in a rush and the sun was setting fast, so I decided this would be a natural light shot. I had the model look towards the warm sun, and asked her to hold the end of her dress.Equipment
The equipment I used for this shot was a Nikon d5100 with a Nikkor 50mm 1.8 G lens. I took this shot hand held, and crouched down low, trying to hide the cars in the parking lot.Inspiration
I am part of a group which goes out every Friday to do photo shoots in local parks. When we were walking through the park I noticed the tide was out and these posts were sticking out. I thought these would make for a great leading line to my model.Editing
For post processing I cull my photos in lightroom and then bring them into photoshop. I use the the Little Lusker Shift action set, which really helps with the work flow.In my camera bag
I have a lowepro flipside which I adore. It fits my d5100 with a 50mm 1.8 g lens, and I carry the sigma 30mm 1.4 and the sigma 10-20mm as well. I also have room for my Yongnuo 560 III flash, and my 560 tx transmitter. I carry nd filters for each of the lenses in the pocket. And on the side is a nice secure spot for my tripod. The bag is weather proof and is perfect for any situation, I've taken it on hikes and on airplanes across country.Feedback
To capture something like this beware of the tide, and the time of day. The light on the models face is from the warm sunset, just before it went dark. Also be aware of anything in the grass, we were careful not to startle any snakes.
