Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken of the newer lighthouse located at the Sodus Point State Park, Sodus Point, New York. This lighthouse is located on the Great Sodus Bay on Lake Ontario.

Time

This was taken in early April which can bring in some wild weather off Lake Ontario This was taken late morning or early afternoon.

Lighting

Camera was set at f/11, ISO 400 and shutter speed of 1000.

Equipment

This was taken with my Canon Rebel T3, 75-300mm lens. I would have had an ultraviolet and polarizing lens on as well.

Inspiration

It was a very windy day and I had been looking for the opportunity to catch some waves on the "big lake". I had to say in my car to take these photos since the wind was blowing the sand so hard across the beach.

Editing

I may have cropped the photo to bring it in a little closer.

In my camera bag

I have both a 75-300mm and 18-55mm lens with me at all times. Ultraviolet and polarizing lenses and lens cleaner. Since I am a birder I also carry binoculars. Insect repellent and pepper spray (since I'm often out alone and you never know who or what you may encounter; although I've never had any problems.) I make sure to carry bottled water and a light snack in case I'm out an extended period of time. I will take a tri-pod as well if I know my main focus will be of landscapes; not action shots of birds.

Feedback

Be aware of weather conditions throughout the year that would be conducive to the results you are looking for. Pay attention to the best time of day to visit the location with the least amount of other visitors. Take lots of shots!
