Location
This photo was taken while on a family holiday in India, the location is Lighthouse beach Kovalam in the southern state of Kerela. The beast beach in town with the usual stray dogs and a couple of dead rats to step over on the walk, but it's all part of the experience so was soaking up every minute.Time
Arrived on the beach in the late morning (like I said on holiday so sleep in was a must) There was some fisherman preparing there boat and nets for what would probably be the next days fishing.Lighting
Overcast days are always good for that dramatic effectEquipment
My camera is an Olympus OMD E-M5, my very versitile 14-150mm f4.0-5.6, no flash or tripod require for this shot, just had to get the right aspectInspiration
I was hopeing there would be wooden boats on the beach but having the fisherman going about their daily life was an added bonus that couldn't be missed.Editing
I like to do as little post processing as possible and with this shot all that was required was a little cropping, I used one of the inbiult filter setting on the camera which is a "Dramatic Tones" effect which worked great in this situationIn my camera bag
In my camera bag I always carry my 60mm 2.6 macro lens which is a favorite, the 14-150mm used in this photo and a 70-300mm for those long shots, I also carry a lightweight giotto tripod.Feedback
My best advise would be just to get out there and get amongst it. You will never get a picture like this if you don't go to a similar location yourself and it doesn't have to cost all that much, this depends on your comfort level or should I say your wifes comfort level, so yes it was very expensive for me ;)
