Behind The Lens
Location
This photo was taken in my hometown of Beeton, Ontario, Canada. This was during our yearly "Honey Festival"Time
It was taken in the afternoon. The streets were very busy. This performer would do the human statue thing, changing her pose about every 5 minutes.Lighting
The lighting was typical for a sunny afternoon and I had to be careful not to overexpose the highlights.Equipment
I shot this with a Nikon D60 with a Nikkor 70 - 300mm zoom. This allowed my to get some nice close shots without getting in the subject's space. No tripod was required because it was so sunny out and I wanted a short depth of field anyway.Inspiration
A had sat down earlier in the day and just played around with the zoom taking candid shots of people going by. Later when I saw this performer I knew immediately it was time to take out the zoom.Editing
I did some very slight post processing just to get the exposure right. In my camera bag
My bag usually consists of my one main camera (which is now the Nikon D5200). I have two Nikkor lenses, the 17 to 50 mm and the 70 to 300. Both lenses are auto focus and both have image stabilization. I don't have a flash yet for this camera. I keep a spare battery, spare SD card and all the cleaning supplies necessary. I also carry a polarizing filter to use on sunny days and an R72 infrared filter for experimenting.Feedback
I think the best advice I can give for someone is to be ready. Be ready to shoot at all times. Don't walk around with your camera in the bag, have it out in your hands, especially if you are at an event. You never know when a great subject is going to present itself to you.
