Location
This photo was taken at Cox Bay which is just outside of Tofino, BC in the spring.Time
We were out at around 10:00 in the morning to explore the beach and see if we could find and shells or sand dollars.Lighting
It was a cloudy day with high West Coast clouds which provide a great source of light. In addition the sand and water provided ideal reflection of my grandson bending over to pick up a shell.Equipment
This was shot with a Canon 70D, f6.3 -1/400, ISO 160 using a EF-S 55-250mm lens with a focal length of 250mm and no flash.Inspiration
It was a case of being in the right place at the right time. With my 3 year old grandson running all over the beach, these type of shots can't normally be planned. It was just a matter of being ready.Editing
The only post-processing that was done was a bit of cropping to balance the image. In my camera bag
I carry the Canon 70D with the EF-S 55-250mm kit lens, EF-S 18-55mm kit lens, and a EF 50mm. I also pack along a GoPro Hero 3 and a Manfrotto Monopod.Feedback
When capturing images of fast moving objects - like kids or grandkids - be sure to watch your shutter speeds and be quick to find a shot when they are standing still. In most cases they won't stay still for long!
