Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was shot in my home studio set up in the spare room.

Time

This was shot in the afternoon.

Lighting

I used two speedlites with large soft boxes in front and at a 45 degrees to Faye close in and at full so I'd get sharpe fall off in light just illuminating her face and hands. Shot against a black backdrop and with Faye wearing a black jumper so the focal point of the image is her face and hands.

Equipment

I used a Canon 450d and a EF-S 18-55mm lens and two speedlites in large softboxes for lighting with a black backdrop.

Inspiration

I was just playing round with different light set ups to see what effects I could achieve.

Editing

Post-processing was initially done in Lightroom then in Photoshop where I removed any skin blemishes . I then used Silver Efx Pro to convert to black and white.

In my camera bag

I normally have my Canon 450d with a EF 25-105 f4L and a EF 50 f1.8 attached to a EOS film camera of some sort, I have three, I have an Olympus Trip and a Rolleicord which also come out quite a bit along with ND, ND grads and a ten stop filter.

Feedback

To recreate this shot get your lights in as close as possible turn the power up to full and use a small aperture with as fast a shutter speed as you can to get so the light falls off.
