Beautifully contained highlights, the line lead in and the silhouettes are amazingly clear. Voted

Location
This photo was taken in Shenandoah National Park on Skyline Drive at an overlook. I had previously seen the overlook in full daylight, but wasn't that impressed by the options for foreground objects, so I moved on. But when I saw it at dusk, I just couldn't help but stop and take some more pictures of it!Time
I had been driving around Shenandoah for hours, taking photos and going on hikes. I meant to leave hours before, but just kept getting carried away. Finally, the sun started to set and I forced myself to start driving towards home. When I saw this view, I promised myself "just one more picture!" and stopped the car in the middle of the road. I jumped out right there and I don't regret it.Lighting
We all know about the magic hours of dawn and dusk and I think the dusky sunset in this photo created a beautiful glow and a great deal of contrast. I think the light is the sole reason this photo appeals to people.Equipment
This was taken before I bought my DSLR with a Kodak Easy Share camera (not sure which one). I fiddled with the settings a bit, but the camera didn't allow full customization, so I did what I could. That's it!Inspiration
The jaw-dropping beauty of the light at this spot and this moment convinced me to drop what I was doing and shoot this.Editing
No post-processing was done on this image. I was learning about composition at the time and even to this day, my post-processing skills are limited. In my camera bag
I always have a Nikon D80 in my bag with the kit 35-135 mm lens. I put a cute, comfy neckstrap on it to make carrying it easier on me. I usually also have a tripod (a nice one for photography trips and a crappy one for getting down and dirty on hikes). I have started to carry lens filters with me as well; my favorites are a warming filter, a UV filter, and of course, a polarizing filter.Feedback
Almost any subject can be beautiful under the right conditions, so don't disregard sights that aren't what you were looking for. There are some spots that are even more beautiful in a photo than they are in real life. I like to think of myself as someone who is searching for those magic, hidden spots and when I find them, I feel like I've slipped into an alternate universe for just a moment.
