The climbing area around the Great Spitzkoppe in Namibia was once a wilderness destination. When this picture was taken ten years ago there was no man made light for miles. Now aid money and tourism has allowed civilisation to creep in and the are is home to bungalows to stay in anda shop where generic African souvenirs can be bought. The noise and lights of the local Shebeens echo around the canyons. Progress?

The main face pictured here is called the Matterhorn of Namibia and hosts a number of great face climbs to its summit of 1728M.
