Behind The Lens

Location

My co-workers and I were on a vacation in Virginia Beach. We attended the local zoo whereI was lucky enough to snap this shot .

Time

It was a sunny mid afternoon, but this fellow preferred to stay just in the shadows with only a few streams of sunlight passing through the trees.

Lighting

As I mentioned above, there were a few beams of sunlight shining through the limbs and leaves of the trees in which all of the pelicans were under. It was a hot day and I assume they were trying to stay cool under the trees and on the rocks.

Equipment

I always use my Sony a. I believe at the time it may have been my first Sony a 100. Handheld with a 70 to 300 zoom lens.

Inspiration

I love nature and animals. I take Every opportunity I get to snap a shot of an animal or the beauty of nature around me.

Editing

I am not that computer savvy,so the most I do is usually some cropping, lightening or darkening the photo. Sometimes some adjustments with sharpness and contrasting are about all I truly know how to do.

In my camera bag

I normally carry an extra battery and a SD card with me. I always seem to take more photos than planned. Thank goodness for digital, we definitely would not be able to afford to do that many shots and have them exposed cheaply. Also I have a couple other size lens and a flash bar. Occasionally, I will have a tripod.

Feedback

The ability of today’s technology, snapping photos is so affordable and has made photography fun and easy. Take the shot of what appeals to you. Try to expand your horizons by venturing into shooting something out of the norm. Only you have to like it! It’s great to be recognized, but it is also great to love the shot not so popular to others. Have fun!
