Location
This photo was taken at Glacier Point in Yosemite National Park, CaliforniaTime
The picture was taken at sunset on May 24, 2014 around sunset.Lighting
I waited for the sun to light up half dome with amber light before framing and getting my final picture.Equipment
I use a Sony A7r camera with a Samyang Rokinon Vivitar 14mm f2.8 lens.Inspiration
I wanted to take a beautiful picture of the sunset at Glacier Point from a vantage point that included wild flowers in the foreground. When I found the flowers I composed with the flowers in the foreground and the beautiful image of Half Dome in the background lit up by the setting sun.Editing
I use Perfect Effects by OnOne Software for post-processing mainly for contrast control and some sharpening. In my camera bag
I use a rotation180° Panorama backpack for my camera. I have my camera and lens as well as a tripod on the back of the backpack. The Panorama backpack allow me to swivel my camera to the front of my body from the backpack and get to my camera quickly when I want to photograph something. I have several lens wipes as well as an ND filter stored in my pack. I also have a water bladder for drinking water. I store a jacket appropriate for the season in the backpack as well.Feedback
Study your location well knowing what you want to shoot. It is important to know how long it will take to reach your destination as well as the best times for taking pictures there. The times of year is very important to consider. I use a program called The Photographer's Transit which is a digital map-based shot planning tool for outdoor photographers shooting with interchangeable lens cameras. It really helps in the planning process.
