I can just imagine this photo up on my calendar! Absolutely gorgeous and the little pink crown is a perfect contrast to the black & white. Well done, beautiful shot :)

Behind The Lens

Location

This was shot on the couch in a room that has several windows in the back and to the right of the image.

Time

This was taken in the afternoon.

Lighting

All natural light.

Equipment

Nikon D700. 24-70mm 2.8 lens.

Inspiration

This little kitten was running around the house but I wanted to get a shot of her in the doll bed. I set up the bed on the couch and got very lucky that she just rested on the bed for a second and looked directly at me.

Editing

I converted the color file to black and white using NIK Silver Efex. I composited the tiara image at the end of the processing- leaving the color in the jewels.

In my camera bag

I primarily use the 24-70mm lens. But I also really like the 85mm 1.4 for portraits. I bring a flash and a reflector everywhere.

Feedback

Patience is the key with kittens. Be prepared with the concept and camera settings and keep shooting until you are sure you got the shot you want. You only need one to be a success.
