Location
This photo was taken at a City of Brantford park. Spent time wandering around with my husband looking for bumble bees or butterflies. This one flew past me and I started to follow it. I stalked this butterfly for at least an hour.Time
This was taken during the early afternoon hours. The light was quite bright which brought out the beautiful colours in the butterfly. The gardens are full of colour which makes getting an amazing shot that much easier.Lighting
The lighting was middle of the day sunlight. Nothing special but worked with where the sun was in relation to the subject.Equipment
This image was shot with a Nikon D3000 with a Tamron AF 70-300mm F/4-5.6 Di LD MACRO 1:2 lens. This is my absolutely favorite lens. I didn't use a flash or a tripod. This was all done freehand.Inspiration
My inspiration for this photo is my love of nature. I find that I take much better pictures of nature then of people. Nature seems to just shine when I take its picture. The colours are always beautiful, even on a dreary day. This butterfly was definitely full of colour and was a beautiful subject.Editing
I am not one for a lot of post processing. I feel that the picture should be pretty much perfect right out of the camera. However, having said that, I am quite realistic. For this I did sharpen it a little, but that is about it. I tend to play with settings rather than plan on using post processing to fix something. In my camera bag
My equipment bag is really quite full. I now carry a D7100 with my Tamron AF 70-300mm F/4-5.6 Di LD MACRO 1:2 lens. I carry a flash and a set of filters. I also have handy a tripod most times. The most important thing, I have found to carry in my bag, is a lens cleaning cloth. Very Important.Feedback
The only advice I can give someone trying to capture an image like this. Take your time. Take lots of shots. Play with your settings and relax. It won't happen in 5 minutes, so relax and enjoy your time with nature. You will be surprised what all you see when you slow down and "smell the roses".
