The photo was taken in Richmond Park, London. As a fine art photographer I spend a big part of my time editing pictures and it's essential for me to go for a walk after hours of editing. I never forget to take my camera with me, and that's how I took this pictures, it was just the perfect moment!Time
The best light in Richmond Park is either very early in the morning or close to the sunset time. It was the beginning of July when I took this picture, the sun was getting down and there was that amazing warm and yellowish light. Everything was quiet and still, it was just me and the deer and we kind of recognised each other.Lighting
The light was just perfect. It was that moment of the day in which the light is warm ad soft and it creates that amazing atmosphere in which everything looks like taken from a fairy tale. And this was exactly what I wanted to communicate.Equipment
This shot was taken using a Canon 60D and a 135mm lens. Nothing else was used.Inspiration
I guess old illustrations of my father's fairy books had an influence on me while taking this picture. As an illustrator, my father used to show me these amazing drawings and I grew up with certain images in my mind that definitely affected my work. When I saw the deer I thought about a book cover.Editing
As a fine art photographer, editing is definitely a crucial part in my work. In this particular case I adjusted the contrast and the saturation of the photo (by increasing the first and lowering the second) and I created a spotlight to enlighten the deer. I also added in photoshop a blueish and yellowish layer to add that little bit of texture that gives the picture an extra touch. In my camera bag
I normally have in my bag a camera Canon 5D mark III and my two favourite lenses, a 135mm and a 35mm. I never use flash (unless in very specific cases in which I want to create a peculiar effect), and my distinctive mark is the use of the natural light. I learnt to work around different light conditions and to adapt myself to its changes and shades.Feedback
The best light conditions in Richmond Park are early in the morning and just before the sunset. But it is not only about the light. Going there during this time means also being almost alone with the animals and the nature. If you live in such a busy city like London, as soon as you step into Richmond Park you will feel another atmosphere that connects you with the surrounding environment. When you see the picture, stay calm, relax and just take it. You will definitely be able to communicate that special connection.
