These days even Berlin taxi drivers find it hard to remember where the Wall stood. Tourists search in vain for the 103-mile Cold War barrier that symbolized repression, divided a nation and cost the lives of hundreds of people. With the technique of black and white photography I wanted to capture the claustrophobic atmosphere of that period.
