I usually shoot with a 70-200 and back up some. Shoot in as large as posible and then crop if needed. The lens is crisp and clean which helps too.

Forgot to say you will need to shoot in BULB mode and use a remote shutter control. I hold for two or three seconds and depending on the firework I adjust from there.
