Behind The Lens

Location

Oh, Prague! What an amazingly historical and yet lively city. The lit spotlights surrounding the historical buildings along the rive protruded the night skies at the Charles Bridge. Strolling back from a lost girl tour of the Mala Strana (the Lesser Quarter) side located just across the Charles Bridge from Old Town, at the bottom of the hill that leads up to Prague Castle. A shot even in the black night that gives a serene orange glow across the night sky.

Time

After losing our way in the Mala Strana part of old town, aimlessly wondering around from the mini Eiffel Tower in Kampa Park to every street around the Palace, and plopping down to have a late dinner with friends, a stroll back to the home base had me relinquish my awe at the lit sky and Charles Bridge with my camera. The Mánes Bridge are truly the best place to enjoy the beautiful views of Prague - day or night.

Lighting

Other than playing with my ISO a tad, I let the spotlights in the shot do the work.

Equipment

I used my Nikon D3100 tagged with my Nikon DX 55-300mm lens. No tripod unless you want to count the ledge of the bridge I used for some stability. Just the basics used here and an eye for what is the beauty of Prague but who could miss such wonder?

Inspiration

Inspiration, comes in all forms doesn't it. I try to keep a wide range of inspiration as I find it keeps me continually challenging myself to dare new shots. I must say though that this shot didn't need much inspiration...who's eye wouldn't be dumbfounded by the night sky lit with such well preserved history.

Editing

I hate to say it because I try to use a little processing as possible with a great shot but I did some touch up with contrast and brightness by changing the levels slightly to ensure a clearer shot.

In my camera bag

My bag, always such a dilemma. Somehow, I seem to always overthink the bag and end up with the same equipment and tools every time. I always have my telephoto lens as well as my wide angle on the camera and ready to go. I also like to have the standard 18-55mm which without fail, I never use. Let's see what else...back up battery, sim cards, lens rag, notebook with pen and a bottle of water and, as I am a girl but only like one bag, I of course, have my wallet, phone, and lip balm.

Feedback

If you are looking at Prague and want a spectacular view and with so many option and angles, I suggest the Mánes Bridge between the Lesser Quarter and Old Town around sunset and just after sunset when the lights are up on the Charles Bridge and the surrounding buildings. I would also suggest a shot at water level on the Lesser Quarter side as close to the Charles Bridge as possible...unbelievable shot here with the lights lit up under the bridge and, although different buildings, historical and unique as well. Best bet would be to start at the end of sunset on the Mánes Bridge and work your way along the water on the Lesser Quarter side until you come to the Charles Bridge and then walk up the steps and back to Old Town across the Charles Bridge. I can count the number of amazing shots from memory. Depending on your preference, I would suggest utilizing your exposure and ISO skills and avoid the flash, if possible.
