I took this up in Duschane, Utah in the fall. My in laws live up there and there had been a lot of rain. There was a whole bunch of sunflowers growing wild across the dirt road that runs in front of their house. They live by a lot of fields so there was so many flowers to photograph.Time
This was in the later part of the day about 4:00. The sun was starting to go down and was at the perfect angle to back light the flowers.Lighting
I liked the way the sun was back lighting the petals and it made them look really soft and translucent. The sun also brought out the delicate lines in each petal making it look like a work of art.Equipment
I used a tripod,my minolta maxxum 7d digital body, a polarizer, and my 35 to 80 lens.Inspiration
I love sunflowers because they are so bright and cheery. This one seemed so perfect and it was at the right time of day and the colors were so pretty.Editing
I used Picasa to brighten it up a bit and add a little more color to it and sharpen it some.In my camera bag
I have an old Minolta Maxxum 7D that I've had for a while, a tripod, polarizer, a 35 to 80 millimeter lens, a 90 millimeter macro lens, and a 70 to 210 millimeter lensFeedback
Try to get the flowers after 1:00. The sun straight over head makes the flowers too contrasty and the colors wash out and too many shadows. Use a tripod and be patient because the wind will move the flowers quite a bit.
