This photograph was taken during a time when I was actually a starving artist. I was pretty much homeless and somehow wound up staying at this house for a couple of strange weeks. From what I was told, the house belonged to an elderly man who passed away and had no family to handle his affairs. I guess we were technically squatters.Time
This shot was taken just off the back the home looking out over the back yard as the sun was coming up on a January morning.Lighting
I always find the sunrise to be a more rich light than the sunset.Equipment
I believe I was shooting with the Nikon D3200 with just a stock lens, a tripod and a remote shutter release. Nothing special.Inspiration
Expressing the deepest parts of ourselves something I think most people struggle with. Self-portraits have always been a vehicle for me to expose those raw, unedited pieces of me that most people never see.Editing
Post-processing consisted of a basic image balance in Photoshop. Just a little nudge on the levels and curves to make sure the shadows, mid-tones, and lights were correctly exposed, yet conveyed the bathing of sunlight.In my camera bag
Definitely a remote shutter release and a tripod but lately a neutral density lens. Long exposures in the daytime are infinitely fascinating to me.Feedback
I would say equipment is less important than the ability to capture the story you're trying to tell. It gets a little more complicated when you're the story and the story-teller but I just try not to get too hung up on the technical aspects and remain in the moment.
